5 Movies To Watch When You're Down
Hey, we all have bad days. Days we need to take a little rest and just relax for a little bit while the kids are at school. So, why not watch a movie? After my surgery, I know I won't be moving for a bit, so I'll be watching a lot of movies. I share some of my favorites below with you.
The Big Lebowski
I love this movie. It's equal parts trippy and equal parts just strange enough to keep your attention to the storyline. Plus, I mean it is Jeff Bridges. Plus John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and the late great Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Check it out if you haven't. Mix with a White Russian and enjoy.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Ah, yes, Rocky Horror Picture Show, RHPS for short. A cult classic and the only movie with the longest cinematic run, beginning in 1976, where it is still running in limited release. I want to go to a midnight showing one of these days. Note: This movie is a little racy. It is intended to parody science-fiction and B-movies from thte 1930's through 1970's. But...Tim Curry. Later this year, some network is planning on a reboot. I just hope they don't butcher it. Oh, fun fact, the guy who plays Riff Raff, (Richard O'Brien, one of the writers of the movie) actually voices the father on Phineas and Ferb. Fun.
Of course it's worth mentioning that I want to watch this movie right now because of the amazingly talented Alan Rickman, who played Metatron, herald of the Almighty, and voice of the one true God. Sigh. The movie also has some other notable actors such as Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, and of course, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith as Jay and Silent Bob! I'm a sucker for Kevin Smith movies. Obviously if you're heavily religious you might not be into this movie, or any of my selections. But if not, this is a pretty darn hilarious movie. We miss you, Mr. Rickman.
Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long-Blog
Originally written during the 2007-2008 Writer's Guild Of America Strike and meant for internet distribution only, Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog became a sensation, written by the one and the only Joss Whedon. We have good ol' Neil Patrick Harris (who does not love him?!), Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion of Firefly fame as Captain Mal. I will say this, the movie itself is hilarious, with plenty of catchy songs, but the ending is a bit sad.
Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Gosh, I haven't seen this movie in forever, but it is one of my favorite movies. I love Monty Python, and this is one of the best ones in my opinion.
