A Lesson In Letting Go: Plus A Fun Project!

Recently, I have had trouble letting things go, even the little things, especially the little things. I would snap at my husband, even sometimes Syrus. But we recently did a project that taught me to learn to let go a little more and to have some fun with life, because why not?! So, what did we do? We turned mommy's shoes into works of art, of course!

Granted, my shoes are way beyond their way out, so I wasn't too up in arms about the idea of Syrus drawing all over my shoes. Plus, look at this face, he was so excited!

And so we drew, well, he drew, I kind of just watched from the sidelines as my only pair of shoes were taken over by the artist within my four year-old. But it's okay, because you know what? It made me laugh, it made me smile, and after he was finished, I got the biggest hug you could ever imagine, thanking me for letting him draw on my shoes. That alone makes it worth it. But anyway. Want to try this at home with an old pair of shoes? It's easy!

Grab some fabric markers

And of course, the old pair of shoes that you plan on letting your little one go to town on. If you aren't doing it outside like we did, you can always put newspaper down on the floor or table and do it that way. The kids will have fun, mom and dad will always have a reminder of their little one's artwork, everybody really wins that way!

What a cute idea! I think we all struggle with letting things go sometimes. I'm the same way sometimes with the little things that really don't even matter–I just let them hang on and bother me for no reason!

Love random, fun, spontaneous moments like this. He will surely remember it for a long time.

Such a great idea! My son would love this. I know I have a shoe I can get rid of. Thanks for sharing.

That is a fun idea! Do you wear the shoes when you go out on errands together? I imagine he feels really proud of his art work.

That is a creative way to deal with things! :) I know I have trouble with letting go of things occasionally. I try to do spring cleaning 3/4 times a year just to not have so much stuff.

What an easy way to let your kids be creative! Thanks for the tip. I should go through my Goodwill pile now. . .

It wouldn't be often that kids would get permission for something like that, so I see why he was excited!
