Friday Five Weekly Roundup
I think that I am going to start sharing the five things that I am grateful for each week, on Friday. It helps to realize that the little things are all around me, things that I should be grateful for each and every day. So much has happened in the past year, that it helps to focus on the good things going on in my life, rather than focus all on the bad. So without further ado, here is my very first Friday Five weekly roundup.
1. Dan Celebrated His 59th Birthday This Week
Dan is my stepfather, who came into my life a little bit after my biological dad had passed away. He's been there for me ever since. My favorite memory is when he first arrived at our home, he insisted on taking my sister, mother and I all on a shopping spree. Just because we had never had enough money in the past before to get really nice clothes - because of my father's illness, money was always very tight. Last year, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Luckily, it was caught in time, and the doctors were able to do an esophageal re-section. But it was certainly a scary experience for everyone. It has been about three months since the operation, and he's getting better each and every day. But this week was super special because he celebrated his 59th birthday. I love him just as much as I love my biological dad. He means the world to everyone in our family, especially Syrus. He's got a huge heart of gold and always gives the best hugs.
We had a good time, a wonderful meal and yummy cake.
Happy Birthday, Dan! Love you!
2. New Jewelry Inspiration
Much like writer's block, I often experience a lapse in inspiration when it comes to putting jewelry together. While the craft is something that calms me down and helps me to focus myself, I sometimes have trouble figuring out what to create. In the past I have created Fibromyalgia awareness jewelry, quirky and kitschy jewelry, and vintage inspired jewlery. Finally, this week I thought of some fun pop-culture inspired jewelry. In all started when my sister asked me to make the favors for her wedding, which are Mana and Health keychains! So in the past week, I have created those keychains, a LonLon milk necklace, an Orange Is The New Black inspired necklace, a Frozen inspired necklace and Breaking Bad inspired earrings. Not too bad of a haul this week, if I don't say so myself!
3. Syrus Decided On His Birthday Party Theme
If you've parented a toddler, you'll know how indecisive our little people can be. We've been trying to settle on a theme for the little guy's fourth birthday for a month know. So far, it has changed from Sonic the Hedgehog, Doc McStuffins, Jake & The Neverland Pirates, Kirby, MarioKart and a ton more. Finally, he was able to settle on simply Mario and Luigi. So we got the invitations ordered. That's certainly a step in the right direction....right?!
4. Wedding Planning Is Underway
My little sister is getting married next April, and she's chosen me as her matron of honor, so I get to help out with all that fun stuff like planning everything, sending the invites and save-the-dates out and a bunch of other neat-o stuff. I'm pretty excited, seeing as the last wedding that I went to was my own! So far, she has decided she wants to wear a kimono and sport a Game of Thrones inspired half-updo hairstyle. It's bittersweet, though. She's my little sister, my sweet little sister, and she's getting married! Sometimes I still picture her as a little girl. It's strange. Man, I'll be such a wreck when Syrus grows up and finds a wife someday!
5. Writer's Block Has Eased Up
This is something that I am extremely excited about. For quite awhile now, writer's block has been kicking my ass. I sit down to write, and absolutely nothing would happen. I don't like that. Writing is my passion and when I can't do it, it sucks. But at least as of lately, it has been much better. This time, I've learned to write down my ideas for articles when they come to me, instead of waiting until the morning. Because, well, I tend to get my ideas for writing at night, right before I fall asleep. Such is the plight of the writer.
Here's to a wonderful weekend and an exciting week ahead!
